BVLGARI History

In 1884, a single store marked the beginning of a company that would eventually grow into one of the most respected luxury brands in the world. This store was founded by a silversmith whose name was Sotirio Bulgari, and the company quickly found fame due to its unique and creative attention to design.

The single store thrived, but it was when Bulgari’s sons joined the family business that the company set its sights on the luxury market. Throughout the years, BVLGARI has kept up with the trends, but the company has always held true to its Greek heritage.

Today, BVLGARI is a highly respected luxury brand and celebrities are often seen sporting their creations. In 2001, the company, through a deal with Marriott, moved into the hotel business with multiple resort locations around the world.

Bulgari is also a big player in the luxury watch market, although it is their Swiss subsidiary, Bulgari Haute Horlogerie SA that handles their watch production.

How Much Do BVLGARI Watches Cost?

Do Bulgari Watches Come with a Warranty?

According to Bulgari, all new watches come with a digital warranty card that covers the timepiece for up to two years. Buyers must register their watch, and the warranty is honored in all Bulgari locations worldwide.

The warranty covers manufacturing defects but does not cover any normal wear of the case, band, crown, or glass. It also does not cover loss, theft, or improper use, and may be voided if an attempt to repair the watch is made by an unauthorized person.

Bulgari recently upgraded its warranty to cover its watches for three years instead of two. Furthermore, buyers may upgrade their warranty on select watches, including the Octo Finissimo, Gerald Genta, and Grande Complication watches. This upgrade may cover the watches for up to five years.

Why Are BVLGARI Watches So Expensive?

There are many great watch brands available on the market, and only a fraction of them receives the respect that BVLGARI has earned, but what is it that sets Bulgari watches apart?

Design

Bulgari watches are a mixture of both Swiss and Italian designs, mixed with a lot of Roman inspiration. One of the things that set them apart from other watchmakers is their awe-inspiring and unique designs. Featuring bold colors, gemstones, and shapes that other watchmakers might fear, Bulgari is not afraid to walk on the edge of bold design.

Movement

Although Bulgari used to use outsourced movements, the company began making in-house movements in 2010. In fact, the company designed, assembled, and manufactured their first movement that same year.

Today, Bulgari has won many awards and continues to astound people with its in-house movements. For example, in 2014, the company smashed the record for the world’s thinnest tourbillion with its Octo Finissimo Tourbillion, which features a tourbillion that is only 1.95 mm (about 0.08 in) thick. Additionally, in 2016, Bulgari released an Octo Finissimo that features the world’s thinnest minute repeater.

Craftmanship

While few could argue that Bulgari watches are stunningly attractive, it is their craftsmanship that makes them worth their price tag. The company employs 350 people who work in several facilities to manufacture each watch part. These parts are made with innovative technology and precision, then assembled by hand.

Expertise

Although the company started with a single silversmith, it now employs some of the best watchmakers in the world. Bulgari watches are all assembled by hand to ensure quality precision, and this is done by experts who have dedicated their lives to the art of watchmaking.

Even after the watch is assembled, Bulgari employs a large team of people who work tirelessly to make customers feel as though they have gotten their money’s worth. From well-trained customer service agents to the professionals working in Bulgari’s many boutiques, each employee is dedicated to making sure customers are satisfied with their watch.

Do Bulgari Watches Hold Their Value?

The subject of Bulgari watches and whether they hold their value has been widely debated. Although these luxury watches may not hold their value as well as other more expensive watch brands, such as Rolex, many say that Bulgari watches are a safe investment.

However, unlike Rolex, Bulgari does not keep its supply limited, and therefore there are more watches available on the market. This can cause some watches to lose value over time. Particularly if the model was not a highly sought-after one. That being said, many of the more well-known collections, such as the Serpenti, Monete, and B, Zerol collections hold their value very well.
